Limited Licence (one off events)

If you are planning or intend to host a party or organise an event where liquor will be sold, you may need a limited liquor licence. Even if there is no sale of liquor but consumption is allowed you may need a limited licence.

“Sell” includes

(a) to barter or exchange;

(b) to offer or expose for sale, barter or exchange;

(c) to supply, or offer to supply, in which the supplier derives, or would derive, a direct or indirect pecuniary benefit;

(d) to supply, or offer to supply, gratuitously but with a view to gaining or maintaining custom, or otherwise with a view to commercial gain

  • restaurant, cafe or shop
  • bus, limousine, train or tram
  • boat
  • a public place that is being used for the purpose of an organised event where guests pay for admission.
  • Events where there is a cover charge

What type of limited licence do I need? 

Class 1 – up to 200 persons, trade up to midnight, cant have prescribed entertainment

Class 2 – up to 1200 persons, trade up to 2 am, can’t have prescribed entertainment (direct sales transactions online only eg online or mail order)

Class 3 – Unlimited Capacity, Unrestricted Trade time, must have a responsible person, all persons must have completed responsible service of alcohol training, must have a risk management plan in place

Fees & Charges 

Class 1 – $93.00 + Application Fee $80.50 + GST (late fee applies for events applied for within 7 days of the event)

Class 2 – $198.00* + Application Fee $195.00 + GST  (late fee applies for events applied for within 30 days of the event)

Class 3 – $619.00* + Application Fee $959.00 + GST (late fee applies for events applied for within 60 days of the event)

*Class 2 and 3 applications are also subject to attendance risk loading, additional daily fee and Trading hours risk fee.
